A Busy, Art-filled Sunday

To say we had an eventful Sunday is the understatement of the century! Yeah, sure we're supposed to be acknowledging self-care on the day of rest, but as my first solo show creeps in, rest is few and far between!

We started out the Sunday at Reach rehearsal where I shared for the first time ever that my artist talk will be incorporating performance elements! 

There is a process in a dance called "equivalence". It's where you take a phrase or sentence and create gestures out of each word or collection of words. Those gestures then become a phrase. 

To the left, we have a photo from my collection South, and below that photo is a photo of the performers building their phrases using gestures and poses from the collection. The words they used to build their gestures and phrases is from a poem my friend wrote titled: "Hecatic" Séance Q & A" she powerfully articulates this dream-like
In this poem a dogwood blossom is a threshold. “It guards the entrance between life and death, present and past. It's the conglomeration of what it means for a woman to be a "crossroad" in the South.” 

We then moved on to print wrapping! I'll be selling 8 x 10s of the work featured in the show on my site following the show, but in the meantime, we wanted to make sure we had some pretty ones wrapped and ready to purchase at the show!

Over on my profile @hiaj.eats, we whipped up a meal from the great Athena Calderone (also known as @eyeswoon) from her new cookbook titled Cook Beautiful! 

A deeeeeeelicious pork chop dish with a whole grain mustard sauce as the finish. SUPER simple and is available to repeat at the @hiaj.eats profile! 

We finished up the day wrapping prints the remainder of our beautiful print sets and jumping into wash day and The Handmaids Tale!
