Issa Rae's #AltonSterling GoFundMe Raised More Than $300,000 In Under 24 Hours
Issa Rae has taken her activism to an admirable level. More than 10,000 people have offered their financial support to the family of Alton Sterling's family through a GoFundMe started by the "Awkward Black Girl" writer and actress, just 24 hours after footage surfaced of his fatal shooting by Baton Rouge police officers.
"Can we got a scholarship fund going 4 #AltonSterling's son/kids? Some of us feel helpless when these things happen, but that's a small step," Rae tweeted on Wednesday, after seeing Sterling's oldest son cry out for his father alongside his mother at a press conference.
Less than two hours later, the GoFundMe was up.
The fundraiser's description reads "If you feel helpless, but want to play a small part in easing the burden of #AltonSterling's family, consider donating to this scholarship fund for his 15-year-old son (and his other kids)."
