Sunday Funday with Ashley Johnson
Hi there CRWN fam,
Last Sunday was quite a relaxing!
If you've been following along you know that I've been planning for my first solo show titled Reach: a exhibition on hair identity and Southern womanhood.
A Sunday isn't a Sunday without good eats. So we cruised to one of my favorite places that day--Old Salem: a living museum of 1800s-era Moravian settlement where I have a traditional Moravian brunch (with a few modern flares of course).
From there, we went to the South Eastern Center for Contemporary Art to see the latest body of work titled CUBANS. Museums are where I gain the bulk of my inspiration. I like to see the dedicated practice of other artists and immerse myself in the stories they tell using a broader platform. Museums inspire me and show me spaces where I would like to someday host openings and hold conversations surrounding my work.
Speaking of my work, at the end of the day we did a few minor adjustments for my latest untitled series which involves my nieces and their own hair identities.
If you're in North Carolina, I hope you stop by the opening reception! There's going to be vino, food, prints on sale and an installation you won't want to miss!
See you on Sunday the 24th!
