CRWN on the Move: Broccoli City Fest DC
Broccoli City Festival DC is something I’ve always wanted to attend for the past few years. Being that it is in my hometown, I decided it would be fun and meaningful for me to take part in this year’s festival and photograph my experience.
It was a light rainy day — and muddy at that. I was expecting for everyone to be in big ugly rain coats, hair covered and big boots; but I was instantly enamored by the beautiful hairstyles worn by fly Black women. I captured some of my favorite looks and everyone was pleasant, nice and welcoming. Of course, I came to see some of my favorite artist perform — especially DC Native Chaz French and my all-time favorite Solange.
I wanted to capture the experience from my perspective, which led me to photograph the crowd and the feeling the artists provided us. At the end of the day, I was there for the people and the vibes. When you look through my photos you’ll feel like you’re meeting some of the wonderful people I came across or like you are physically there at the festival.
